We are asking for your prayers for Gene Stahl who had a very serious accident, and for his wife Evelyn and his family. Gene is the father of seven children: daughters Crystal, Carmen, Geena and Taya; and sons Travis, Cody, and Anthony. The manager of the beef operation at Deerfield Colony, near Lewistown, Montana; he is 38 years old; devout Christian, family man, and hard worker.
The colony runs 900+ range cows on Sage Creek, about 15 miles from the home place. Gene, an accomplished horseman, who has been riding since the age of three, was moving cows with his three son the morning of May 19 at Sage Creek.
The young horse that Gene was riding spooked, reared up, and came down backwards with the saddle-horn grinding into Gene’s hip area. The boys saw this and quickly called their mom on a cell phone as their dad lay unconscious. First responders and an ambulance was sent for, but they quickly saw that Mercy Flight was needed. The helicopter arrived within an hour and he was transported to St. Vincents Hospital in Billings. The doctors worked on him all afternoon and evening, trying to stop the open leg wound bleeding, giving blood transfusions, and stabilizing him.
He has a shattered pelvis and multiple broken bones, and is scheduled for surgery Tuesday afternoon.
May the Great Physician guide the surgeon’s hands and eyes.
